DC Superheroes Costumes

DC Superheroes started their introduction into American lives with the National Allied Publications debut of their first comic book in February of 1935. It wasn’t until May of 1937 though that the first real superhero took to the comic book stage and that hero as Batman in Detective Comics. Batman was such a hit that a call was put out for more superhero comic books. As a response to that call in June of 1938 the most enduring of all DC superheroes was introduced in Action Comics #1 as the Man of Steel (Superman). Little did anyone know how super popular Superman was going to be.

National Allied Publications merged with Detective Comics to form National Comics and added the DC insignia to their covers in 1940, symbolizing the Detective Comics brand. Because of the DC insignia on the comic book covers the company became known as DC Comics decades before it ever officially adopted the name in 1977. The company has had its up some downs since 1937, but the DC superheroes have stood the test of time and they’re always at the top of comic book popularity.

DC superheroes have spawned a large variety of superheroes costumes which continue to be popular year after year on Halloween. Here’s a rundown of some of the DC superheroes costumes that are available.

Superman – The Man of Steel is always popular and costumes are available ranging from the inexpensive all way up to collector costumes which can be relatively expensive.
Batman – Like Superman, Batman is always one of the DC superheroes costumes that are a favorite. These costumes can be found in both the Dark Knight versions and the sixties campy versions. These costumes are also available in collector versions.
Batgirl – This is a great one for the ladies and will give you an air of mystery and seductiveness as you don your mask and vinyl tights.
Robin – If you are more the sidekick type then a Robin costume may be right up your alley. These come in both mens and women’s costumes.
Wonder Woman – If you can make this costume work then I can guarantee you it will make you for more fans than you ever thought you would ever have.
Hawkman – First appearing as a DC superhero in 1940 this character has stood the test of time and makes a great costume choice if you like having wings.
Green Lantern – If you look good in green guys then one of these vintage 1940s DC superheroes is a great choice and in 2011 the character made a comeback in a much anticipated movie. Believe it or not this costume is available in both women’s and mens as well.
The Flash – If you dare to wear red then a Flash costume with a full cowl will not only make a stand out in the crowd, it will also make you anonymous.
